A step-by-step recovery plan for green, cloudy, or neglected pools
A green pool is a condition, not a single diagnosis. Algae growth may be accompanied by low sanitizer, poor circulation, a loaded filter, debris, high stabilizer, equipment problems, or water that has been neglected for an extended period.
Cleanup usually requires repeated testing, brushing, circulation, filtration, debris removal, and chemical correction. The water may change quickly at first, but complete recovery can take longer when visibility is poor, the pool is heavily contaminated, or the filter cannot keep up.
We evaluate the water and equipment before setting expectations. The plan may be a one-time recovery followed by maintenance service, or it may require separate equipment repair or more extensive cleanup.
What we review
- Initial water and equipment assessment
- Debris removal, brushing, and circulation plan
- Sanitizer and chemistry correction based on readings
- Filter cleaning or service during recovery
- Follow-up testing and transition to routine maintenance

Common pool-service questions
How long does green pool cleanup take?
Light algae may improve quickly, while heavily green or neglected water can take several visits and filter cycles. Visibility, debris, chemistry, circulation, and equipment condition all affect the timeline.
Should a green pool always be drained?
No. Many pools can be recovered without draining, and draining can create structural or surface risks. Any recommendation to drain substantially should be made carefully and, where required, handled by qualified licensed personnel.
